My son has grown up in the city of Berlin, but from an early age, I hoped he would feel at home in nature too. Two months before his second birthday, we began regularly visiting the Märkisch-Oderland region of Brandenburg. There he befriended two neighboring girls, who have spent their childhood surrounded by fields and forests. The photo series depicts the development of their friendship over the next two summers, as they explored the garden and the surrounding meadows together. The portraits of my son on his own each mark a step in his growth. Together, the images capture moments of a shared childhood, and my own wonder in watching my son grow from a tentative toddler into a bold and joyful little boy. Presented in the group exhibition “Kindheit (Childhood)” at Studio Siebzehntausend, Berlin, March–April 2025.
